Discover Gail Valley

The Gail river is the largest right-hand tributary of Drava and flows between East Tyrol and western Carinthia, in a west-east direction, along the valley of the same name, the Gailtal, which is parallel to the border with Italy. Its river basin is nestled between the Lienz Dolomites, the Gailtal Limestone Alps and the Carnic Alps and stretch from west to east over a length of about 100 kilometres. In the midst of these unique mountain landscapes lies Lake Weissensee with its surrounding nature park.

The Slow Food Travel project is active in this region, combining the Slow Food philosophy of conserving agri-food biodiversity with the promotion of slow tourism linked to good food, which results from culinary tradition and sustainable agricultural customs of the local communities that produce tasty and genuine food.
